Designer on-line shop | Colours for textiles in the richness of Russian icons |
|||||
Patricia's early inspiration, she tells us, comes from the Flower Fairy books and priests' vestments. When considering the historical textiles as depicted in a Titian painting it can be seen why the designs have an atmosphere of antique art in textiles. Russian icons are also a great source of inspiration for colour as are the vibrant colours in The Books of Hours. The designs for the textiles are always original drawings evolved from doodles, gradually crafted into the intricate patterns that adorn the fabrics. Modern computer techniques allow the work to be speeded up when working out the repeats for the screen printing of the designs and for strengthening the density of the artwork, but the main design is still accomplished with a pencil. The resultant fabrics can therefore be custom made to fit in with the atmosphere required for a project. This can vary from the simple contemporary abstract or geometric design through to the intricate organic forms of another age. Cleverly replicating the spirit of historical textiles without stealing any of the design work. Charles and Patricia are very proud of the fact that they do not copy anyone else's design work. All designs are their own original artwork, the inspiration for form and shape often taken from the most unlikely source such as the line of a hair piece seen on film, or a curl of cloud.
