LUXURY SILK ART FOR THE HOME

Whether your taste is for classical period style architecture and interior design or a modern and contemporary approach, the warm appeal of brick and terracotta is always attractive. As an internal ornament this wall hanging combines various tones of red earth colours that would enrich a home interior design project. It can be used as a decorative focal point when considering creative spaces or as a functional bed coverlet or throw for an important piece of furniture.

This wall hanging was inspired by the intricate brickwork often found in Art and Craft period buildings and those of the Elizabethan era. Old weathered bricks have a patina and variation of colours that are not found in modern terracotta work. This unusual waving tapestry would look good in a traditional home that is filled with antiques, or equally well in a minimalist contemporary setting.

This unusual art piece was made from hand pleated silk. The process for which is complicated and time consuming, starting with plain white fabric the Lesters hand paint layers of colour to add a quality that cannot be achieved by conventional dying techniques. They are inspired by many images and this particular work has a mixture of reference points from the amazing colours of Sedona earth to the old bricks of an industrial chimney or in fact the bricks that now make up the paths of the Workhouse studio garden

UNIQUE SILK TAPESTRIES.

This art form is unusual in that the fabric inspires the art. When a piece of fabric has unique qualities it is a shame to use it for the fashion collection. Gradually special pieces are collected to add to those that have been specially painted for the piece and an idea of the form the picture is to take begins to emerge. Unlike woven tapestries, this technique has no historical foundations, but is the result of painstaking experimentation.
